No, this is a kind of platformer. From what ive seen, you have to seek out these giant monsters with your horse, and then defeat them however you can. I'd be put off if it were anything like a Hack 'n' Slash game, never liked those.

Yeah, that was quite funny. Ever since the massive success of the Red vs Blue tie-in for Halo, a lot of videogame companies are now trying to include comedy in their commercials just like that. I suppose the logic behind it is: if they make us laugh enough, they probably do know what makes games fun.
Anyway, I found a patch online that lets me play all of my PAL games with 60Hz and no borders. This is amazing for games like FFX, where the PAL version featured Tidus pretty much floating with every step. The 20% increase in frame rate for this NTSC patch is really noticable since now he actually runs normally, and general animation and lip-sync integrate more smoothly with the sound.
Edit: Damn. Ive only just found out the flaw with this. Theres no way to alter the frame rate of the FMV's, meaning that they run too fast, and the sound clips accordingly to keep up. This renders using the aforementioned patch useless for FMV-heavy games like FFX, which is a real shame considering how great the improvements were.
I guess the only way to get it truly working in 60Hz would be to download an NTSC version of it, but sadly there are a load of extra features in the PAL version of FFX (such as dark aeons, ribbon, extra sphere grid) which i want to keep. I cant really win with this case, but it'll be just perfect for FFX-2 and Kingdom Hearts.

Well, i'm enjoying like mad of Final Fantasy IX, much, much better than any other Final Fantasy in PSX, or at least, that has been programed for it.
Technically, is impressive. Uses frame buffer access like mad, and the characters are really well modelated, have tons of details, and move very fluidly (for a PSX... that is) and the best of all, where you could get a slowdown in Final Fantasy VIII, in IX moves fluidly! (still slows down a bit, but keeps an acceptable frame rate in the emulator)
The story is nice, doesn't get you bored, and the side quests and the alternative minigames are amusing.
So, a good recomendation! ^^ and i'm still in the third disk, levelling up a bit for the final battle and getting ready for the 4th disk...
